For many outdoor or wet environment applications, the membrane switches usually need be waterproof and also usually use copper FPCcircuit or PCB circuit to get more better reliability and stability. As we know under such kind of circumstances, the wet air or water can penetrate into the membrane switch inner circuit. If use the silver printed Polyester circuit, it can be corroded after a period of time. If use copper FPC circuit, then it can put off the corrosion time much, because of that the copper is not easy to be corroded. By the way, use a waterproof gasket structure to the FPC membrane switch, then the water will hard to go into the membrane switch inner. Of course to get more better waterproof performance, the more bigger of the waterproof gasket border the more better of the water resistant performance. Now, the waterproof FPC membrane switches are widely used in defence, aerospace, marine, medical etc. fields.
